skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another autocross. Another autocross today. This time the Porsche Club. 6 runs, and amazingly, I was NOT DFL. I actually had two runs that if I had made it through the proper side of the finish alley (they had this tight turn right before the finish straight, and I missed it twice - once inside, once outside...), I would have had some pretty respectable times. As it was, I think I had 1 run in the 1:30s, although I took out a cone (or possibly two...). Which would have made me far from DNF. And I'm learning. Heh. And I've got a lot of room for improvement! I still am not completely comfortable with the shifting in exciting sitautions (i.e. turning hard, coming in to a sea of cones), but I think I'll get there. In the meantime, today. I had a great time. As always. Mr. V. rode with me in the morning (license or not, I want to driver with an experienced passenger as much as possible), and another ski racing friend of ours (actually, the guy who got Mr. V. into autocross) rode in the afternoon. I was conservative in the morning and wild in the afternoon (in the afternoon session, I only finished 1 of the 3 runs - the other 2 I was off course), and on that 1 run that I did finish, I took out at least one cone, if not more. *ahem But it was exciting. I was On The Gas A Lot.` I was Off Course A Lot, too, but Damn, I had fun. This is soooo much fun. And the ski racing buddy who rode with me, who has a 2006 Mini, was totally expecting the car to do a bad things with a couple of my moves, and was just astounded that I (meaning the car) pulled out just fine.
