skibigsky's Diaryland Diary

More racing.

Thanks for all the advice on male models. Heh. Although, as I expected, Mr. V. is a little jealous of the ‘models’. He sort of forgets that I hit on him when he was broke and had a broken neck. Clearly I wasn’t looking for a pretty face who could support me. But that’s just how he is. He’s just puffing out his chest at the moment. He’ll be over it quickly.

I actually found this guy on NewFaces.com. He’s got a great military look to him that might suit very well. And he’s a Slovak, which is roughly (okay, VERY roughly) the same geographic region. But I’m still investigating the ‘leads’ that you have given me. And I’m narrowing down the choices. Because I can put a story to a face (and I can work the face to fit the story, as well).

So all is moving forward there. I have started moving words across the pages – some in my smut, and some in scenes for the novel. It feels a little clunky with both, but like any muscle that has atrophied a bit, it will take some time. And it feels good.

And I finally drove the Mini on the freeway today. Oh shush. I haven’t been driving it as much as I should be; the car went in to get shocks done, and then the brakes, and something else. I’m still trying to figure out this whole manual transmission thing. Not far, but I got the car up to 75 mph (in 4th gear, I’d like to add), and managed the off-ramp without throwing myself through the windshield, so I’m getting there. I still have serious issues with gas stations (thank the gods for long gas hoses!), but I’m getting there. And why is it that Mr. V. seems to leave ALL the cars with no gas in them? Sheesh./i>

Anyway, we’ve got a BIG race weekend this weekend. The co-driver of Mr. V.’s Miata is coming in tomorrow from California, and the boys are going to be working with their car. Me? I’ve got a co-driver for the Mini (one of the top racers in our division), which will be cool, but I’m really responsible for the (make that ‘my’) car. Like actually changing tires, and stuff. Ya’know. Like being a real driver.

Eesh.

Actually I’m really excited. Saturday is a bit of a test day – for Mr. V. and for me. He’ll be working with his car, and I’ll be learning a lot about mine.

Sunday is a pressure day. It is the ‘Masters’ day – a bunch of our ski racer buddies will be out, and we’ve invited a bunch of spectators, as well as having roped in one of theUHP guys to run. (As an aside, after some work on our part, the UHP and some of the other law enforcement agencies are ALL OVER a designated ‘cop’ day. The PR department for the collective law enforcement group is promoting this big time, and we will probably have TV and newspaper coverage. Great PR for SCCA, and for the law enforcement groups. And all because the one UHP guy was driving to the jail, and saw us in the parking lot, and came over to see what was going on. Ironically, it is this same guy who is joining us on Sunday. He doesn’t have official approval – not enough notice – to run his squad car, so he’ll be running the family car. But he’ll be out there. Which is TOO COOL.

And it can never hurt to have UHP officers as friends, right?!? Yeah. That’s what I thought, too. Heh.

But back to Sunday. Our cycling buddy who hurt himself so badly will be out to watch for a while, a good friend of mine from the University will be out, and a few of our ski racers will be out. If all goes well, it will be a social thing as much as a race thing.

All of which means that I’ve been going crazy to make sure the social part goes off well. I bought a lot of water, sandwich stuff, fruit and munchies, as well as sunscreen, GOJO (to get the grease/dirt off your hands when you change tires and do other car stuff), and ‘junk’ towels, so that all of our participants are taken care of.

Yep. I’ll be a sandwich-making-fool on Saturday afternoon.

We’ll have the 5th wheel with us, so we’ve got shade, and a somewhat air conditioned place to hang out. I don’t have much experience with the whole big social thing, so I’m hoping that I’ve thought enough ahead.

Tomorrow? The Mini gets dropped off for some regular maintenance, we pick up the 5th wheel from the storage space, and Mr. V.’s co-driver comes in for the weekend. With luck, we’ll sneak in a bike ride.
