skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blah, blah, blah Today didn’t turn out exactly as planned. We were going to take the dogs on a walk, ride, pick up the MINI with its new race shocks, go to the bank and officially put me on the checking account (the bank has never cared before, but now that we’ve got an investment account, we want to be consistent), and get pictures of the Harley so I can get it listed. We took the dogs on a walk, and went on a ride. I was having a rough time on the ride (I was bone tire; a combination of ‘female issues’ (hush!) and a couple of hard rides this week. Mr. V., on the other hand, didn’t feel good on the walk, but figured that he had taken his sleeping meds too late, and he’d work through it. He didn’t feel much better when we started on the bike ride, but again, he usually works through it. He didn’t. We rode 33 miles, but the last mile he was in bad shape – weak, wobbly on the bike, and almost to where I was going to demand he get off the bike and I’d pick him up in the car. As it was, we got back to the school where we park, and he immediately lay down in the grass while I packed up the car. I got our bikes on the car (go me! I usually let him do this, as I’m not just tall enough to get the bikes on easily) and drove him home. I got him upstairs, and he collapsed into bed, dizzy and seeing spots. Handyman was at the house, and took the bikes off the car for me. Then, since we need the MINI for racing this weekend, and it was still down at the dealership, I asked Handyman to come with me down to the dealership to get the car, so we could have it for the weekend. In truth, driving downtown and home in Friday afternoon traffic was not something I was looking forward to; I was tired, not very focused, and worried about Mr. V. So, I drove Handyman down to the dealership in the Pacifica, and had him drive the MINI home. It actually all worked out, as the MINI is almost fully gassed, and Mr. V. had wanted to run out the gas so he could put in some high octane (104, if you must know) gas in the MINI for the race this weekend. Handyman had some errands to run in Salt Lake, and so it all worked out (and he didn’t have to drive his gas-hog of a truck down to SLC and back). And it was just as well. I am not yet an ‘automatic’ driver, and really had to focus even just to get the Pacifica home. Mr. V. was still asleep when I got home, and I took the opportunity to take a nap of my own. The fact that I slept for an hour, and woke up when Mr. V. did attests to how tired he was, and hot tired I was, as well. I feel fine, but he’s still feeling extremely run-down. I think it is just because he’s been So Busy for the last 2 weeks straight, but if he’s not better after the weekend, I’m going to get him in to the doctor’s and have some blood work done. He’s felt this way for a few days, and I just want to make sure that he’s okay. Although he just had chips and salsa for ‘dinner’ so I’m guessing it’s not food poisoning or something like that…. So, no name on the account yet (which sort of sucked for Handyman, as I meant to pay him today…), and no Harley listing. I’ll get that done this weekend. *yawn. Yep. This is probably one of the most boring entries ever. I’m just a little too tired to be witty and bright. And I haven’t done anything exciting. I’ll probably take the MINI out tomorrow to burn out some gas and to get some more ‘city driving’ experience. Am I a slow learner? Probably. Some of it is that autocrossing is totally different than street driving; you want to drop the clutch at your start in AX, not so much at a traffic light (and I end up going to other way, occasionally stalling the car by not stepping on the gas enough…); in AX you (generally) rev your engine quickly and shift as soon as you get in the powerband, in street driving you just don’t want to accelerate that quickly (although I LOVE the feeling); you break hard but not fully (unless you are stopping) in AX, but you are strapped in with a 5-point harness – hard breaking during street driving will piss off your passengers (and possibly get you rear-ended). Since my first manual transmission experiences have been in AX, I’m still trying to get a handle on the whole street driving thing. Yep. I’m a slow learner. But I’ll get it. 8:04 p.m. - 24 August 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
