skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A beater. I think I have Mr. V. convinced that we should buy me a $500 beater. Not that I'm having issues with the clutch (well, I don't downshift all that smoothly still, and I like to park facing downhill, if possible...), but if he's going to buy a Vette, I'd like to be able to drive it, and I want to be Super Smooth on the clutch. So I'm in the market for a heap with a good clutch/transmission. Wish me luck. In the meantime, Mr. V. and I will be racing the Mini tomorrow at a local Autocross. If we are in different classes, I'll have him get some pictures of me. I've got new shocks in the car; super stiff, so you feel EVERY bump in the road, but maybe I'll not end up quite as drastically on 3 wheels. Maybe. I guess I should add that I mean 'beater' in the sense of a 'beaten up, old, ugly car' and NOTHING else. BTW, I just put up a post on our local forum; maybe one of the mechanic kids can help me find a junker. I'm glad that Mr. V. is actually encouraging me in this. I think he thinks I can drive the MINI just fine, but my confidence would be boosted by knowing I can learn in a car that won't cost zillions of dollars to fix, and ultimately, it will make me a better driver - it's just how I am. Once I've got confidence, I'm great, but if I am uncertain? Not so good. Which is why a 'disposable' car will be a good thing for me. And I'm lucky that I'm able to do this. Yet another update. Mr. V. is looking seriously at a 2003 Z06. And I'll continue to look for a beater. Because why leave one foot of driveway free, right?!? 5:21 p.m. - 25 August 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
