skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Autocross. Yeah. So. Here is a video from a guy who has a John Cooper Works Mini Cooper (not to worry, it's just a souped-up MINI!). His car (named Phil, incidentally), and Phil is a convertible; he's got the camera mounted between the 2 front seats. . But this is absolutely how a run in autocross goes. Just so you know what is going on, it starts with him driving down Parleys (cute video work, but exactly what we see, too!) and then he gets to the race. The grid marshal (the guy in the green vest) directing David from his parking spot in the grid (where we park our cars between runs) to the start line. If you notice, there is a brief hold in the start, and then it is all go. (Turn up the volume before you start the video, BTW. You need to be able to hear everything!) From the start, there is a 90--degree right turn into a 3 cone slalom into a hard right turn, then, a couple of 'jogs' (ie not full turns) into a 180-degree turn, followed by a tricky little section the jogs you right, into another 180-degree turn (for the record, I totally understeered this turn one time, came out of the course, and 'selectively' drove the rest of the course...). Out of this turn, you come into a 7 cone slalom (for us, this is a LONG slalom), and then a hard right turn, into the finish. You will hear his time announced, and his excitement at his time (his best time was a 47.990, my best time was a 52.446, which is an eternity of difference in autocross, but a great finish for me, BTW). The video WILL take a little while to load, but trust me, if you want to see what the hell I've been talking about all summer, this is it. Yep. I'm crazy, and I'm loving it!!! 6:33 p.m. - 01 September 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
