skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update. Are other people having problem opening this link to the autocross video? http://gallery.mac.com/davidbreslauer1#100015 My parents are having issues opening it, and I’m wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. Let me know – my parents are trying to solve the problem, and I’m just wondering if anyone else has advice. So. Life. We went on a bike ride today (woo-hoo!!! Finally!) with a bunch of ski racing buddies. It was cool that our top female racer was there, as was the wife of another top racer – I wasn’t the only woman out there, surrounded by a group of testosterone driven guys. Which turned out to be a good thing. We (i.e. the women) were all operating with the understanding that we’d be going out for a casual, FLAT, ride. Of course, as soon as we (Mr. V., Slabby and myself) met up with the others, the boys decided that they wanted to climb hills. I left Mr. V. to do the testosterone-laden thing, and I hung back with the two other women, one of whom I knew, the other I had never met. We chatted and rode amicably; it’s fun to ride with other women who want to work, but don’t have the insane need to keep up with their husbands (and who totally appreciate the opportunities to ride with other women while the men get their ya-yas). I am thinking that I don’t have enough female friends. Frankly, Mr. V. and I don’t have a lot of very close friends outside each other (and really, while we’ve got a lot of acquaintances, we mostly socialize with each other). But riding with a group that included that testosterone-driven men and us more casual but still active women? I like it. Yeah, so that was fun. We didn’t do the full ride with them, as we had to get back to the house. Two of the ‘kids’ from autocross –my co-driver, and his buddy who is a mechanic (note to self: ALWAYS have a mechanic friend) were putting in a new rear sway bar. Yeah, I know. Blah, blah, blah. My dad’s comment on my last AX email was “I know that the words are English, and they seem to be spelled correctly. But I have NO IDEA what you are talking about. So…. Don’t feel bad. We’ve got a race tomorrow, and the kids wanted to get the car set up right. They worked on it (or, more accurately, the mechanic worked, and Mr. V. and MattMan BS’ed… typical….)
After a couple of hours of work, they took the car out, set up some cones and put it through its paces. Apparently the car is WAY better than it was before. I am being tutored by a national champion G Stock Ladies’ driver tomorrow (this is my class – she will kick my ass around the parking lot and back, but if I’m smart, I’ll learn stuff), and I’m excited. I’m a bit afraid that she’ll think I’m a complete idiot, but I’d love to get some help. Hopefully she’ll be basic enough that I can actually learn something. In the meantime, I’ve got to get us packed, and ready to go. Especially since we’ve got to be there at 6:30 am, so Mr. V. can learn how to set courses. Woo-hoo. I’m excited that he’s learned to set courses. I’m not so excited to get up BEFORE the ass-crack of dawn to do it…. Let’s hope I get power to the ground tomorrow! 7:48 p.m. - 02 September 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
