Mish-mash

For starters, upon further review of the results, I KICKED ASS at yesterday’s autocross. I beat some people that I have not beaten all season. I finished slightly back of middle of the pack in raw time, and smack in the middle for adjusted time. In a field of 120 people, this is HUGE for me. I’m excited. I’m further excited that my coach has agreed to take me on (and her husband will be taking Mr. V. on) as a co-driver (in my car – she LOVES my car) next season. Next season could see major breakthroughs. This is actually so exciting that I’m ready to skip ahead to next spring. Yes. Me. Really!

I am just beyond words thrilled with how things went. And Charles, my de-facto coach, as well as Rod (my first coach, a former National champion who was brave enough to get in the MINI with me on my very first driver’s ed day, when I had barely spent an hour trying to master the clutch – and loves telling anyone and everyone he introduces me to!) were both REALLY impressed.

So I’m feeling good. Even if I get my ass kicked at the Nationals, I’d just like to lay down good (for me!) runs. I’ve got another ‘training’ race next weekend, so I’m hopeful.

And on to a meme. Stole this from Opal.

1. How old do you wish you were?
o The age I am. The older I get, the more I wonder how I ever managed to survive my younger years.

2. Where were you when 9/11 happened?
o Getting ready for work; I turned on the TV and it was all over the place. I remember getting to work and my psycho boss pretending like nothing had happened.

3. What do you do when vending machines steal your money?
o Usually slink away, telling myself that it was only 50-cents. And even though I haven’t used a vending machine in years, I doubt I’d get too upset about it.

4. Do you consider yourself kind?
o Generally. But I could be more so. If I feel out of place, I am reticent, not kind,

5. If you HAD to get a tattoo, where would it be?
o Under my armpit. No offense to you tattoo people, but I am just NOT into the permanent skin marking thing. Given my genetics, it is not going to be pretty at 80.

6. If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be?
o Serbo-Croat. Only so that when Mr. V. and Rhett talk on the chairlift, I know if the lewd things they are saying are about me, or if they are just insulting each other because they can.

7. Do you know your neighbors?
o No. I’m really antisocial, and when I tried to make overtures to the one asshole who had our dogs taken to the pound when Mr. V. was in the hospital with his broken neck (I didn’t live here then, and the dog sitter let them bark a little too much – but this guy had had other peoples’ dogs hauled off as well for ‘offenses’), the guy was a complete jerk. So I gave up.

8. What do you consider a vacation/holiday?
o Heh. My entire life is a holiday. Except for when Mr. V. wants me to work on business stuff.

9. Do you follow your horoscope?
o Nope. I have to think about which sign I even am. (I’m an Aries, but that’s about all I know…)

10. Are you touchy feely?
o Yeah. Especially with people I like. I like physical contact. It’s important to me. And is probably why I don’t mind having a dog steal most of my pillow at night – I like the physical contact.

11. Do you believe that opposites attract?
o Yeah. Do they work out? Dunno about that!

12. Dream job?
o I guess I’ve got it. I am Mr. V.’s Girl Friday, but the hours are flexible, the boss might be intense, but I get a lot of play time!

13. Favorite channel(s)?
o Eh. ESPN, I guess. I haven’t watched anything other than the US Open lately, so I don’t know.

14. Favorite place to go on weekends?
o Cycling, autocrossing, skiing, whatever – as long as it is outside and physical (unless I’m exhausted, and then inside, napping!).

15. Showers or Baths?
o Showers. I have lost the ‘bathing ritual’ thing that I had many years ago. Now I want to get in and out and on with my life.

16. Do you paint your nails?
o Not as often as I did 3 months ago. With all the car stuff, my nails get chewed up pretty quickly, and I just haven’t had the time to invest in doing them well. Maybe after next weekend, when we’ve got a couple of weeks break before the Nationals.

17. Do you trust people easily?
o Either absolutely, or not at all. And once I don’t trust someone, it’s REALLY hard to change my opinion.

18. What are your phobias?
o Bugs. I HATE bugs. Especially (and don’t stone me for this) butterflies. I hate those butterfly houses at zoos, where the damn things land on you. Bugs with big wings. UGH!!!!

19. Do you want kids?
o As long as they have four feet and are hairy. *grin.

20. Do you keep a handwritten journal?
o Occasionally. I usually destroy it after I write, so not as much as I did 5 years ago.

21. Where would you rather be right now?
o The exact same spot I’m in now, except with a wee bit of scotch next to me. Tonight is feeling like a night for a little aqua vitae

22. Heavy or light sleeper?
o Depends. Usually I am a fairly light sleeper, but lately I’ve been sleeping like the dead.

23. Are you paranoid?
o What? Just because I wear a tinfoil hat to keep the government satellites from reading my thoughts and controlling my actions? Nah.

24. Are you impatient?
o I thought I was, but as I am driving more and more, I am becoming more patient. I’m just not in a huge rush to get anywhere, and I don’t get bent out of shape about people who are.

25. Who can you relate to?
o Erg. My poodles? My husband? Dunno. A wide range of people, in some aspects.

26. What's your main ringtone on your cell?
o Right now? The Star Wars Cantina Theme. For quite a while I had the Joseph Smith song from South Park, but since Mr. V. has that on his phone, it got sort of confusing….

27. What were you doing at midnight last night?
o Listening to the first section of ‘Helen of Troy’ on my shuffle as I was trying to fall asleep.

28. What did the last text on your mobile phone say?
o Text? It might have been from my massage therapist reminding me of an appointment. I hate text messages.

29. Name 3 things you have on you at all times.
o Wedding ring, silver dog bowl charm around my neck, and my pewter ‘Dogs Rule’ pendant.

30. How much money do you have on you?
o On me? Nada. In my wallet? Maybe a buck or two. Oooh. I lie, I just went to the bank to get some cash for the dog sitter. So $20.

31. What is your favorite part of the chicken?
o The rubber part.

32. What's your favorite town/city?
o I think I live there. I’m so happy, and so lucky to live here. And I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

33. Who got you to start an online journal?
o Decided that with my living situation at the time, a paper journal wasn’t safe. I googled online diaries, and found D-land. Widower (who has since moved to his own site) really drew me in.

34. What did you have for dinner last night?
o Steak, corn and a potato. Classic after-autocross fare for us.

35. How tall are you barefoot?
o 5’6, although Mr. V. is convinced that I am 5’7.

36. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
o Water. FRS if I am going to work out.

37. Do you have A.D.D.?
o I don’t think so, but there are days when I wonder….

38. Favorite place to be?
o With my husband, my dogs and my cats.

39. Where would you like to travel?
o Really, I’m a home-body. I got the traveling bug out when I was a kid. But I would like to go to Yellowstone with the 5th wheel and the kids.

40. Where do you think you'll be in 10 yrs?
o Hopefully right here, with my husband and kids.

41. What songs do you sing in the shower?
o I don't sing in the shower, but when I am driving, I sing loudly to whatever is in the CD player or on the iPod. Driving to the AX yesterday? I was belting out ‘In the Jailhouse Now’ from ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’. Heh.

42. Worst injury you've ever had.
o Hmm. Probably not the torn ACL, although the surgery sucked. And the broken nose healed pretty quickly, so I’d have to go with the distal fracture of my arm after poorly landing a jump in a downhill training session this last March.

43. What is your favorite candy?
o Starburst.

44. What song is stuck in your head?
o ‘Heavy Fuel’ by Dire Straits. I was singing THAT in the car today. Heh.
