skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eesh. Fun times in Volatile Land. Or something. Mr. V. has been sick for 2 weeks now. Yesterday I finally convince him that he NEEDS to see a doctor so he can be healthy before we leave for Topeka. Knowing that he’s got to be at his best to even show up to the races, he agrees. I get him a doctor’s appointment for 12:45 today. In the meantime, Ben, the standard poodle, has gone from having a foot that he was licking occasionally on Monday night, to it being swollen yesterday, me giving him some (old-ish) antibiotics from a previous infection, and when it didn’t get better this morning, I made an appointment for him to see our vet at 3pm. So. My day. 8am-12noon: Working on websites, business name changes, DBAs, accounting, bulleting boards, and other fun business stuff. Then I hustled Mr. V. into the car and got him to the doctor. The verdict: pneumonia. Not just your average ‘walking pneumonia/bronchitis’ but ‘we-are-two-steps-from-hospitalizing-this-guy pneumonia’. Fuck. Needless to say, the MD put him on thermonuclear antibiotics, and ordered him to bed for 7 days. He’s not keen on the 7 day bed rest thing, but since I will NOT let him out of bed to do something that will jeopardize his health for the Nationals at Topeka, he’s stuck. In bed. We had to cancel some safety steward training (which Mr. V. is pissed at me for doing), but damnit, I won’t let him relapse, so that he is still sick next week when Charles, Mr. V. and I leave for Topeka. I won’t put that burden on Charles – if Mr. V. is still sick, Charles will have to drive The Entire Way from Park City to Topeka, and I’m NOT going to do that to Charles for Mr. V. to get in safety training a few weeks sooner than he could do. Charles is totally supportive of me getting Mr. V. sick. HE certainly doesn’t want to deal with a ‘sickie’ on the trip, and he wants to see Mr. V. racing at the top of his game. So I’ve got an ally there, which is cool. And Ben. Eesh. Apparently he was bitten by a spider or something; his middle toe is REALLY swollen and red, and he’s running a minor fever. Nothing is broken, but something is not right. So after an hour at the vet’s, Ben also has some heavy-duty antibiotics, and is sacked out on the bed. Hopefully within 4 days, he’ll be all better. Eeesh. I can’t handle having 2 sick boys at once. I’m worried about both of them, and I’m worried about how they’ll both be by the time we leave for Topeka (NEXT FRIDAY!!! EEEK!!!). *ahem. I just want Mr. V. better, and I want Ben ready to travel. Because yeah, the poods are coming with us to Topeka. We can’t leave them. And even if Charles drives the whole way, TaiChi likes him enough that she’ll sleep with her head in his lap on the drive. Which will make the whole drive so much better! Because even Charles admits that our poodle provide excellent therapy! 10:12 p.m. - 12 September 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
