skibigsky's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yet another update. Gah. It's been HOW LONG since I updated? Yeah.. Um.. Anyhoo.... It's been crazy; I'm not cut out for business (HELLO!!! I was in academia my entire life. The antithesis of a small business.), and I'm learning in a trial-by-fire approach. But, I might actually learn to manage people and assist others in learning the same. Not in my basic nature, but I'm learning and stretching. Sometimes a tad painful, but a good process in the long run, I think. Been skiing on the putt-putt course and a little around the mountain. I've got a good pair of skis, and that makes me happy. I've signed up for the Nast@r Nationals, and I'm looking forward to it. I think I'll have my ass handed to me, but we'll see how it goes. I'm going to do some training the next couple of weeks, so hopefully it will get me a little more prepared. Mr. V. is still scheduled for surgery on the 18th, and I have been in the process of lining up some guys to cycle with while he is out of commission. And before I get the 'But you can ride by yourself - why do you need someone else?!?' question, let me just say that I would feel very uncomfortable as a lone female rider on the road. Either on fairly empty frontage roads (which is a recipe for disaster, sorry.... especially since the frontage road leads right to the local Home Depot... too many people in big pickup trucks potentially clipping cyclists - accidentally or 'accidentally' if you know what I mean... and yes, I own a big pickup truck... and swing REALLY wide when I come up on cyclists), or in town (too many cars - and too easy to get clipped). Say what you will. I don't think anyone should ride alone (hit and runs happen), but I REALLY don't think that I should ride alone. So, I've enlisted one of my PTs (and a guy who was on our cycling team last summer), an older ski racing buddy (whose 'easy' rides will likely run me into the ground), and I'm working on Crazy Harold (who will need to get on his touring bike, and put lead weights in his saddle bags). With those 3 guys, I should have a good riding team - and I think a group of people, who will, when Mr. V. is up for it, ride with him as well - so we'll have a good recreational riding group for the rest of the summer. And speaking of the rest of the summer.... Charles was up here for the last 5 days working on the Miata. Of the many things he did? Made the seat adjustable, so I can drive the car. So, if I can learn to drive a car without power steering, I've got a bitching race car. And yes, honestly, I would rather drive this car than the Corvette. (Not that I wouldn't drive the Corvette, but I'm learning to love the prepared cars.... heh... especially since I'm aspiring to a C prepared car - a Mustang or something....*grin). But, there is some debate as to whether I can handle the manual steering or not. If I can't, I'll have to persuade the team to reinstall the power steering. *grin. Because I really want to drive this car. Even if it is just to try it. The irony is that Mr. V. had originally looked at the Miata for me. Couldn't have driven it in a million years, then. Now? We'll see. But I'm excited. The only kicker is that it is a one-seat car - all instruction will be via radio. Not quite the same thing as having a coach in the seat next to you. The final excitement? Because of our business endeavors, our cell bill has been through the roof; I'm going to change over our cell plan (i.e. WAY more minutes), and see about some new phones. More money, but I think that it might actually make business work easier. *whew. More later. 9:32 p.m. - 29 February 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
